I believe that the tutor’s role is to work with the student however they present for lessons, whether they have practiced or not.
I work upon the premise that the tutor’s role is to:
☺ Provide interesting songs, activities, experiences, musical knowledge and techniques which build upon the student’s current skills
☺ Create motivational opportunities for student’s to showcase their work, or improve upon certain elements of musicianship or practice.
☺ Provide opportunities for the student to experience themselves as competent musicians, creating a positive attitude around music.
I aim to make music a fun and enjoyable experience for children. I use only positive, supportive guidance in relation to practice. Please see the ‘Practice’ section in relation to my expectations surrounding this issue.
I do not use sweets as a reward system, which is part of my own philosophy.
